During my site visit, I had the opportunity to work closely with Michael Rachwalski, and it was a great experience overall. It was especially valuable to have a site visit with a provider who had worked at the same facility, as this gave him strong insight into the workflow and patient population on the surgical floor. It also made discussions more meaningful because I could talk about different surgeons I worked with, and he was familiar with them, allowing for more personalized and relevant feedback.
Throughout the visit, I was able to discuss real patient cases that I encountered during my rotation. This created a meaningful learning environment where I could ask questions and receive immediate, relevant feedback. He encouraged me to think more critically about each case, guiding me to consider different clinical perspectives and strengthening my clinical reasoning skills.
We also spent time reviewing medications that I observed being used in practice. He provided additional details about their mechanisms of action, indications, and potential side effects, which helped deepen my understanding of pharmacology in a real-world surgical setting. These discussions made it easier to connect classroom concepts to actual patient care.
Overall, this was a great and valuable learning experience that strengthened my confidence in discussing cases and applying pharmacologic knowledge. The opportunity to learn in an interactive, case-based setting made the experience both practical and directly applicable to my development as a clinician.
